    • Danish pianist Jacob David is a true darling of the neoclassical world. His compositions are inexplicably gorgeous, finding that perfect line between melancholy and hopefulness that he performs with a soulful yet intimate touch. He emerged onto the scene fully formed in 2015 with his debut LP Omkuld, which is heralded by fans and critics alike as one of the classic records of the 2010s. The beautiful tunes from the record, as well as a collection of singles released in the 2nd half of the decade, continued to connect with audiences, resulting in an explosion of interest in his music. He released his second full length Mursejler in early 2021 with pieces more spellbinding than ever, with the album finding itself on countless year end lists. He's released over a dozen pieces since, including co-writes with UK pianist Elliott Jack Sansom and Danish crooner Mattis.

My dear grandfather didn't like me playing his grand piano. He said that thanks to me, his ears were falling off. In church, people remarked I played too quickly, too rhythmically or just with too much 'jazz'. Perhaps it is thanks to them that I learned to play much softer and began writing such quiet music. As I sit at the piano, my fingers producing barely a whisper, I still imagine them behind me, chiming in. Thanks for joining me in this quiet place, and for tuning in. Feel free to stay a while - hope I won’t make your ears fall off.

  • About the composer +
    • Jacob David (born 1981) is a Danish composer and pianist based in Copenhagen. Since a child, he was inseparable from the piano, doing improvisations ranging from blues to classical. While playing at nursing homes in his early 20’s, Jacob David observed how the music was soothing and would sometimes bring back memories long forgotten. This experience compelled him to simplify his music style; and he began to compose original pieces.

Alongside his solo project, Jacob David collaborates with music engineer and producer Thomas Haahr, composing soundtracks for film and TV.  www.moodscoremusic.com
