Etude 113 for Timpani consists of two rhythmical versions frequently found in Timpani repertoire.
113a emphasizes the punctuated three-eight rhythm.
113b focusses the sixteenth note rhythm.
In contrast to the purely rhythmic/technical bars, both versions pick up melodic sequenzes of a choral intermittendly. The improvisation as an obligatory part of the composition gives room for the player´s own creativity. For the same reason the choice of timpani sticks (hard, medium, soft, wood, rubber, flannel) as well as the sticking are left to the performer.
