Erik Ørum von Spreckelsen has had a close and fruitful collaboration with pianist Karolina Bogus and trombonist Robert Holmsted who have performed and recorded Conversations.
Conversations and the sister movement Dreamchild is composed from von Spreckelsen's intervalic system, which he has been working on since 1998. In Conversations, he continuously works with this system and additionally integrates elements from his pianistic jazz background. It was a criteria that the piece should have a melodic and singing expression, since the trombone has great similarities with the human voice. In Conversations this quality of the instrument can easily be heard.
