Zeppelin was originally composed for solo piano in 2024 and belongs to the neoclassical genre. Shortly after the single’s release on streaming platforms, the work was arranged by Aaron Locklear for seven percussionists. The artistic objective of the arrangement was to preserve the essence and intimacy of the original piano version, while expanding its expressive scope through additional layers of sound.
Through a broad and imaginative use of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments, the arrangement transforms the work into a rich sonic landscape with increased spatial and timbral depth. After an extensive period of immersion in the original material, Locklear shaped this version of Zeppelin, incorporating his own personal musical characteristics. As an active percussionist with a lifelong career in the field, his deep practical knowledge of percussion performance is clearly reflected in the work’s textural nuance and expressive clarity.
