  • Description +
    • Each movement utilizes a different number of mallets in each hand:

      I. Constellations uses two mallets.
II. Black Hole uses one mallet in the left hand, two mallets in the right hand.
III. Nebula uses two mallets in the left hand, one mallet in the right hand.
IV. Eclipse uses four mallets, two in each hand.

The idea for the piece was to create music that is challenging but accessible for those starting four-mallet technique, enjoyable to learn and listen to, and is also different than other pieces of the same difficulty.

The piece can be played on either a 3.0 octave vibraphone or 3.0 octave marimba. The piece comes with a vibraphone version with pedal/dampening markings and a marimba version with roll section and coda).

In the vibraphone version, movement one includes trail dampening from measure 27 to 42. The last movement has an optional L.V. on the last note. It is up to the performer to decide how long or short to hold the last chord.
